How to Get Rid of WartsWarts are small, skin-coloured, rugged lumps on the skin. They generally appear on the hands and feet and look different depending on where they are on the body. Genital warts are warts present on the genitals and around the rectum. Warts are caused by contamination with a virus. Virus called human papilloma virus (HPV). Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the world. Health experts appraise there are more cases of genital HPV infection than any other STI in the United States. Around 6.2 million new cases of sexually transmitted HPV infections are accounted every year. Approximately 20 million people in this country are already infected. HPV virus causes a hard protein called keratin in the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) to grow too much, producing the rough, hard texture of a wart. Warts can grow very slowly and may take weeks or longer, in few cases, to develop. Warts are generally harmless, but they can look unattractive. Warts on the genitals are very infectious and can be passed to another person during oral, vaginal or anal sex. Warts aren't commonly painful, although verrucas can sometimes hurt. The various types of warts are. Common warts: normally appear on the hands, but can appear anywhere. Flat warts: generally present on the face and forehead. Common in children, less so in teens, and rare in adults. Genital warts: usually predicate on the genitals, in the pubic area, and the area between the thighs, but can appear inside the vagina and anal canal. Plantar warts: base on the soles of the feet. Subungual and periungual warts: come into sight under and around the fingernails or toenails. Simply touching a wart on someone doesn't assure that you'll get one, too. But the viruses which cause warts are passed from person to person by close physical contact. They usually clear up by themselves, though treatment can help to get rid of them more quickly. Treatment of WartsCryotherapy - Very cold liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the wart to freeze and demolish the cells. Treatment takes about 5-15 minutes. Chemical treatments - Treatments including chemicals such as formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, and podophyllin can be used to remove warts. These chemicals are toxicant to skin cells – they are dabbed onto warts to kill the skin cells there. Over-the-counter treatments - A variety of creams, gels, paints and medicated plasters are procurable from pharmacies. Most of these have salicylic acid as their active ingredient. Salicylic acid and other wart treatments also eradicate healthy skin so it is important to protect the skin around the wart - use petroleum jelly or a corn plaster to cover it. Surgical treatment is to remove all vestiges of the warts. Duct tape occlusion therapy includes placing a piece of duct tape (or medical tape) over the affected area for a week at a time. The modus operandi is otherwise identical to that of using salicylic acid adhesive pads. Surgery – Surgery to remove warts is procedured out under general or local anaesthetic. Warts can be cut out of the skin (essential for a few, large warts), or the skin of the wart can be scraped off with a spoon-like instrument called a curette. Large warts betimes need to be frozen several times, a week or so apart, before they clear. Home Remedies of Warts1. Applying of castor oil is one of the most important home remedies for warts.
