Breast Enhancement

Breast enhancement is a rapidly growing area of cosmetic plastic surgery, and includes several breast surgery procedures. Cosmetic breast procedures include breast augmentation, which is accomplished with breast implants. Breast lift is a procedure which is often performed simultaneously with an augmentation. Breast implants come in many sizes and shapes. Breast Augmentation is performed to increase the size and fullness of the breast. Women whose breasts are disproportionately small, or whose breasts have sagged or "deflated" after childbirth, or who have unevenly-shaped or sized breasts, are candidates for the procedure. At times, it is necessary to lower the inframammary fold to achieve the results we are looking for. If the breasts droop too much, a "lifting" procedure may be required in addition to, or instead of the augmentation. The location of the incisions, under/over the muscle, breast size, choice of implant type and shape are custom designed for each patient based on their needs and their body and breast types.

There are two primary types of breast implants: saline filled and silicone gel filled implants. Saline implants have a silicone elastomer shell filled with sterile saline liquid. Silicone gel implants have a silicone shell filled with a viscous silicone gel. Breast enhancement is a rapidly growing area of cosmetic plastic surgery , and includes several breast surgery procedures. Cosmetic breast procedures include breast augmentation (breast enlargement), which is accomplished with breast implants. Breast lift is a procedure which is often performed simultaneously with an augmentation. In addition to these purely cosmetic procedures, breast reduction is an enhancement surgery that potentially offers both health and cosmetic benefits. There have been several alternative types of breast implants developed, such as polypropylene string or soy oil, but these are uncommon.

The surgical procedure for breast augmentation takes approximately one to two hours. Breast implants do not generally interfere with a woman's ability to breast feed, or present a health hazard during pregnancy to a woman or her baby. However, pregnancy and the associated changes to a woman's body may alter the results of any breast surgery, including surgery to place breast implants. The type of breast implant that you choose for surgery should be based on your desired change in profile and cleavage. Factors include positioning, surface texture, shape, personal anatomy and other considerations.
