What is Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris ?

Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris is a very common type of skin disorders but is very dangerous also. Pityriasis rubra pilaris is a cluster of rare skin disorders that shhows along with reddish-orange coloured scaling patches with well defined borders, that is possibly caused by an inherited metabolic defect. Generally it begins as a patchy rash on the scalp, face or chest. PRP is often initially mistaken for another skin condition, usually psoriasis. Over a period as short a several weeks it expands downward, and often covers much of the body.

  • Thick skin on the palms and soles can split and become painful. Walking may be sore.
  • The itching is generally severe at first, and then later is not as bad as you would think considering how bad the rash appears.
